The African Literature Association has extended its paper proposal deadline to December 6th – so there’s still time to submit something if you think you’d like to attend! It may be possible for a group of us to reserve a state car or van and carpool to Atlanta for the weekend, and both English and Comparative Literature make some travel funds available for students who are presenting at conferences. Here’s the conference website: http://ala2016.com/
I’m over the moon that Chris Abani is a featured speaker at the conference; we’ll likely be reading his 2005 GraceLand in the seminar.
To give you a sense of some (really just some) of the topics of interest to people who attend this conference – and within the field of African literature more broadly take a look at this list of proposed panels (and feel free to submit a paper abstract to any one that seems like a good fit!): http://africanlit.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/ALA-2016_Proposed-Panels_10-20-15.pdf
